    1. Mr. Hand reported one CODAP program change. VARGEN was corrected to allow the use of background variables as alpha-numeric character strings. This documented feature worked on the Sperry version, but would never have worked under AIX. This was an important function in the past when the grade variable was collected as "E1", "E2", etc.. VARGEN allowed the user to create a numeric variable from such input. Modern surveys now collect grade as numeric, so this VARGEN feature was not used. Only recently was this error discovered during some unusual processing for a Metrica study.

    2. Randolph AFB and OMS are under a requirement to research and resolve all potential date problems as we approach the year 2000. Most CODAP programs are not date sensitive with respect to calculations. However, all programs do report the date and time of the report. This date is extracted from the AIX system subroutine "localtime". Currently, the conversion to a military-formatted date (DD MMM YY) will not work in 2000. The CODAP subroutine "times.f" must be modified, and then all programs must be recompiled. In addition, the programs SYSTEM, REPSXX, and FACSXX must be modified separately, as they do make some minor date comparisons.

    3. Since all CODAP programs must be recompiled, the desirability of adding a program logging mechanism was discussed. This could be used to determine which programs were most frequently used, and whether these programs were completed succuessfully.

    4. Pat Waldroop has been working to regenerate all of the original individual program flowcharts. These charts were originally done with GemDraw, and then later were redrawn in HarvardGraphics. Pat is using PowerPoint to draw the flowcharts, and then capturing and saving the image in .GIF format. These charts can then be added to the CODAP documentation web pages.

    5. OMS reported a problem accessing the disk-version of the CODAP web pages. The download of the original files was done under DOS 6.0, which truncates the .html extension name to ".HTM". Of course, the internal links all specify the .html names. Under Netscape 3.0 using the "Open File" command, the linkage on the DOS-based version is followed flawlessly. The linkage does not work under Microsoft Internet Explorer, or under normal network (non-local file) conditions. Darryl Hand will instead ftp a mirror image of the web site to the OMS RISC, which the local system administrator can then use as needed.

    6. The possibility of creating a web page of CODAP information for non-current users was discussed. This would include information such as the history of CODAP, what it's used for, and how to obtain it. A publication of this very information already exists. It was suggested that this document be scanned, converted to HTML, updated as needed, and added to the web.

    7. AUTHOR will be made publicly available through anonymous ftp on the Metrica web site (metrisc.metricanet.com, or 204.242.97.66), under the directory pub/author. Since the file is in PKZIP compressed format, the user must do the transfer in binary mode.

    8. Tim O'Neil reported that HAILS is being used by a number of agencies, and the system was recently requested and loaded to several WAPS test developer's computers.

    9. The status of the Air Force Survey Authoring System was also discussed, in terms of the continuing beta testing and review by OMYV.

    10. The next meeting will be at 14:00 hours, Thursday, 31 July.
