OA USERS GROUP MEETING

April 1997

The monthly meeting of the OA Users Group was held 24 April 1997 at 1400 hours, in an Armstrong Laboratory, Human Resources Directorate conference room, Brooks Air Force Base, TX. Elena Weber, OMYX, chaired the meeting.

  • Those in attendance included:

    Elena Weber AFOMS/OMYX 652-5811 WeberE@mail.omsq.af.mil
    Mike Ostrander AFOMS/OMYV 652-5030 Ostrandm@mail.omsq.af.mil
    Timothy O'Neil AFOMS/OMYX 652-5811 ONeilT@mail.omsq.af.mil
    Janice Buchhorn AL/HRTD 536-4005 Buchhorn@alhrt.brooks.af.mil
    Jimmy Mitchell IJOA 349-8525 IJOAJLM@aol.com
    Pat Waldroop IJOA 349-8525 waldroop@metricanet.com

    1. Mr. Hand was absent and thus had nothing to report on the status of CODAP. However, Ms Waldroop is in process of completing additional flow diagrams for use in CODAP documentation, as had been requested by OMYX. These will greatly expand the level of detail within the on-line CODAP documentation and should make it easier for the reader or analyst to follow the program logic flow.

    2. Ms. Buchhorn reminded participants that the AL/HR UNISYS equipment could be deactivated within the next few months, and queried how one would determine where various CODAP files might be located after such a shutdown. She asked if there were some type of status system which listed specialties and the AFS files available. Some information is available via the HAILS, which are up- dated semiannually with AFPC classification changes. Such HAILS files include where the latest occupational analysis study was done (OMS Risc vs UNISYS) but does not necessarily list all the files available. The most current task list for AFSs is also available. Ms Buchhorn asked the status of prior UNISYS studies being converted and files on the OMS Risc, and how such studies can be addressed.

    3. Ms Weber responded that OMYX is proceeding as quickly as possible in transfering the "latest" study for all specialties, but that some officer studies or other special study (OMYA) may be too old to convert or may just not have high enough priority. Olga Velez is the OMY CODAP programmer accomplishing such conversions and is retiring at the end of May. After that, it may be some time before a new programmer is available who could do such conversions.

    4. Tim O'Neil reported that HAILS is being used by a number of agencies, and the system was recently requested and loaded to several WAPS test developer's computers.

    5. The status of the Air Force Survey Authoring System was also discussed, in terms of the continuing beta testing and review by OMYV, primarily Mr. Ostrander. Mr. Ostrander indicated he is very pleased with the refined system and appreciates all the additional changes made to improve wording and appearance. Mr. Ostrander reported that it was now a fully operational system although there are a few formatting issues, within the Collect function. He noted that he has used AUTHOR to generate survey disks for an operational study, which are now being reviewed by other OMY staff as a final quality control. Dr. Mitchell indicated that the IJOA staff would be pleased to assist in such QC; Mr. Ostrander responded that he would provide a copy of the survey if permitted.

    6. The next meeting will be at 14:00 hours, Thursday, 29 May, in the IJOA office at 10010 San Pedro, Suite 440, San Antonio, TX. There was some discussion of the possibility of having the June meeting in conjunction with the International Occupational Analysts Workshop (10-12 June in San Antonio); Ms Weber suggested that it would depend on whether the OA program chiefs were to meet during the conference. Ms Weber will check it out with Mr. Tartell to see if such a Chiefs meeting is planned...
