  1. The VARSUM error detected by OMS in the Stratcom study has been corrected. An array was dimensioned at a smaller size than was being checked for. Most VARSUM runstreams easily fit under the old limit. The Stratcom study was unusual in that it had GWI items which have a scale range of one to nine, as opposed to the usual zero/one background items. This greatly increased the amount of space used by VARSUM. The new version has an increased array size, and if the user requests still exceed the size limit, the program will terminate with the appropriate message, advising the user to split the runstream.

  2. RPDEL was modified to no longer renumber the saved reports. To preserve the integrity of the Report file structure, deleted reports are now saved as a single label record, greatly reducing the size of the output file. This label record contains, among other information, pointers to the first and last record number of the associated report. For deleted reports, these pointers now point to the label record itself. Essentially, the deleted reports still exist, so the reports are not renumbered. This update to RPDEL necessitated changes to both PRTREP and REPSXX, which will now ignore these "deleted" reports.

  3. The web page documentation for RPDEL was updated, as was RPCOPY (which simply notes that if you don't want reports renumbered, use RPDEL). PRTFAC was updated to include the `D' option and the optional output text file.

  4. The status of the Air Force Survey Authoring System (AFSAS) was discussed; this was the subject of a separate meeting just prior to the OA Users Group meeting. A beta version (V2.7b) of the system has been completed and is in final testing. This version will be installed on an OMY computer next week; Mr. Tartell and his staff suggested Thursday at 0830 hours in the Inventory Development office. An Install disk will also be available for Dr. Bennett, COTR for this project, at the same time. After installation, the IJOA staff will walk through the creation of a survey disk starting from a Tiara file. Dr. Mitchell noted that some background items will need editing to fit the electronic (as opposed to paper-and-pencil) format, and that QC review is appropriate at all steps in the process. After mastering, the survey will be duplicated and then taken by OMY personnel, and data loaded to a common file via the AUTHOR collect function. There was an extended discussion of output format, and how items should be coded consistent with the desired file format specified by Ms Weber. Mr. David Tucker provided a demonstration of the AUTHOR software, highlighting major changes from the prior version including the implementation of logic routing through relevant items. A standard OMS background template was displayed and discussed; a number of item codings need to be resolved. Multiple background templates are possible by copying and modifying the existing template. Dr. Mitchell announced that the next major version of the software (3.0), expected by the the time of the International Occupational Analyst Workshop in early June, will include implementation of Actual Time data collection and a number of other advanced functions.

  5. The connection problem between the OMS RISC and Metrica was resolved. The static routes on the OMS machine had been lost. These routes were regenerated by Mr. Dennis Stone, restoring all connectivity.

  6. Regarding the absence of on-line minutes for several previous months, Elena Weber requested that Darryl Hand attempt to recreate them as much as possible.

  7. The next meeting will be at 14:00 hours, 27 March, at the OMS conference room, Hanger 13, Randolph AFB, TX.
